Is Tithing Biblical ?

Many continue to refer to Tithing is a must.

Is it ?

Is Tithing still a commandment ?

In the old Testament God commanded Tithing of 10 % , ( tithe, which means one – tenth ) , yet in the New Testament, The Apostle Paul says:

2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Have you ever looked upon Tithing as an obligation, one that actually is like a burden ?

Have you ever wondered, so I give 10% before taxes or is it after taxes or is it after I pay the bills ??? What happens if I don’t have enough to pay 10% after paying my bills ?? Awwwwwwwwww!!!

Many say that you must Tithe are you will not have financial success, as that is the only way and so on.

Wonder how many  Pastors I maybe upsetting about now….. hang in there keep reading : )  Remember this is simply a conversation, on this topic, exploring for the truth.

One can see where Pastors get this impression reading all of 2 Corinthians 9.  The problem is when it is used to prod, in a way that is a Burden , a Guilt trip if you will , rather than as is stated in 2 Corinthians 9:7  – when some refer back to the old Testament, when saying you must Tithe ; such as:

Malachi 3:8

“Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings.

Malachi 3:7-9

Malachi 3:10

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Malachi 3:9-11 (in Context)

Surely in the old testament day this was very True and of course correct.

The Old Testament no longer applies today as to Tithing. This is why the New Testament is called NEW, and  2 Corinthians 9:7 is now in place.

2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Knowing this, we now should look upon giving as a fun , joyful thing to do.

Example:
You know that your Church has to have money to pay the electric bill, the water, sewer, general maintenance and so on .. correct ?

Ask yourself, how can I help. Do I have time to donate to help maintain the Church grounds ? I know I can give $50.00 a month (12.50 a week ) to help pay the Church bills and still be able to provide for my family. I can also volunteer to do what I am able.

I may have to give up a round of golf, a nights bowling, a new purse or some other item I do not really have to have, in order to do this and that’s OK !

My Church needs it more !  The Enjoyment of drawing closer to God our Father, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ , like this, is in deed a joyful, loving way of living.

Which one of these choices makes you Cheerful ?

1. Awwwwwwwww will I have enough to meet the 10 % every month !!

2. I can go with out a round of golf or bowling etc. MY Church needs it more

Now you see what the Holly Spirit is saying through the Apostle Paul .

Once you begin giving in a cheerful way, you will place more importance on your giving as willful, cheerful and fulfilling participation with your local Church.

You begin to see the needs as you do of your own and you cheerfully give to meet them.

You more closely understand the Church is The Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ and Heaven is your True Home, therefore you cheerfully give to meet the need.

2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9: 6-11

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
    their righteousness endures forever.”[a]

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Remember , giving cheerfully does not mean you are making a “deal” with God!

Meaning: Hey the more I give the more cash I will get back !! YE ha !!  Yea Baby! Happy happy !

HE is saying; HE will bless you abundantly,  2 Corinthians 9: And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

God is our Father and Jesus Christ is our Lord as we honor HIM , doing what HE ask , HE will bless us ( reward ) and by choosing to cheerfully meet the needs of HIS Church that we are the body of, HE will glorify Himself by supplying our need, so we may continue to enjoy the giving to HIM and thus enhancing the loving relationship HE shares with us and we with HIM,that has -0- to do with money.
